This project is being undertaken as a part of the Healthier757 VDH Grant which began in 2024-25 and continues into the current fiscal year.
Context / Problem Statement
Reduce breast cancer mortality rates by increasing mammography screenings (primarily at Bon Secours Imaging Centers but also Sentara Mobile Unit). Addresses barriers to screening access, awareness, and education—particularly among Black women in Portsmouth, which has the highest breast cancer mortality rate in Hampton Roads.

Status / Timeline
Approved by Bon Secours and now in planning and design phase. Mammography outreach led by Healthy Portsmouth is scheduled for the remainder of 2025. Expanded marketing support is needed from the City of Portsmouth.
We want to be ready for October - Breast Cancer Awareness month. Also a major event on 10/ at the Imaging Centers.
